Mazunte doesn't ask for a packed schedule. It's a small village on the Oaxaca coast, and most of what's worth doing here is outdoors, on foot, and timed to the sun or the tide. We live inside El Torón Reserve, 30 hectares of protected coast just outside the village, so this list is the one we'd hand a friend: a handful of places we'd actually send you, what each one is, and when to go.
One thing to know before you plan. El Torón changes with the season, green to gold. The rainy months turn the reserve lush and dense; later in the year it dries to sun-washed gold. The walks below are the same walks either way, but they feel like different places.
How we'd split your days
Two or three full days covers it. Give one evening to Punta Cometa, one morning to the turtle center and the village, one day to the water, and at least one day to doing very little inside the reserve. If you're with us longer, repeat the last one. The land does the work here.
Getting around
Most of this is walkable or a short ride. We keep bicycles for guest use and we'd rather you walk or ride than drive; it's part of how we run the place. San Agustinillo's roads are mostly unpaved, so sturdy shoes beat sandals for anything beyond the beach.
