La Valise Mazunte
La Valise Mazunte is a ten-suite retreat plus one standalone villa, set inside a 30-hectare private coastal reserve on the cliffs above Mazunte, on Oaxaca's Pacific coast — architecture and nature kept deliberately in balance rather than a hotel dropped onto a beach. An architect-led, adults-only property (18+) built into a protected 30-hectare reserve rather than a conventional beachfront lot, with the land's ecosystem — nesting sea turtles, endemic birds, seasonal shifts from green to gold — treated as the actual amenity. It's the Oaxaca coast entry in the La Valise Hotels group (sister properties in Mexico City, San Miguel de Allende, and Tulum), designed by Alberto Kalach and Ignacio Urquiza, with Kalach's Villa Pentágonos as the signature structure. - We prioritize eco-friendly amenities such as reef-safe sunscreen and after-sun lotion; single-use plastic is strictly prohibited; we offer bikes and encourage walking instead of using cars; smoking is banned in all public areas and rooms; and guests are encouraged to reuse towels and indicate when they want their bedsheets changed to conserve water. The hotel was built with local wood and stone sourced from the reserve, with cross ventilation that reduces the need for artificial cooling.
